The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) in Jordan has renewed a strategic partnership agreement with Microsoft.

Under the agreement, which extends a pact from 2003, Microsoft will supply software licences and other services for various government entities at a cost of US$8.7 million.

Part of the sum will be allotted for the development and implementation of projects, while the rest will be invested in development programs for Microsoft's local software solutions partners, as well as an internship program for students at the MoICT, the software giant said in a statement.

Microsoft will also offer public sector entities a discount of up to 65% on various Microsoft product licences, the sector said.

The agreement has been extended until 2009.
