Kuwait to get telco regulator
Ministry of Communications starts procedures for set up of regulatory authority.
The Ministry of Communications (MoC) in Kuwait is in the process of setting up a telecommunications regulatory authority in the country, according to a report in the Arab Times citing a senior official at the MoC.
The official did not specify a timeline for the introduction of the new operator, but said the subject would be discussed at the next National Assembly session.
The regulator will be responsible for a range of areas including designing a regulatory framework, licensing all telecom services, and resolving disputes between operators and between operators and the authority, the official said.
Kuwait is one of the last countries in the Gulf to introduce a telecommunications regulatory authority after Lebanon's telecommunications regulator began operations earlier this year.
