MTC Kuwait has awarded Motorola a contract to upgrade and expand its nationwide3G/High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network, and to help it launch High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) in Kuwait.

Motorola claims that this will be the first deployment of an HSUPA network in the region.

Under the agreement, Motorola will supply network infrastructure, integration and support services for MTC's nationwide 3G/HSDPA network, helping it to improve coverage. It will also upgrade the network with an Internet Protocol (IP) backhaul solution that will give subscribers faster access to content.

"With MTC Kuwait's enhanced 3G/HsxPA network, subscribers will have access to even faster data download speeds and will be able to upload data more quickly. Sharing video files instantly or responding to work-related e-mails as soon as they come in are just some of the ways that MTC Kuwait's customers will benefit from our agreement with Motorola," said MTC Kuwait CEO Barrak Al Sabeeh.

Motorola will provide MTC Kuwait with its HsxPA technology, which combines both HSDPA and HSUPA, to enable two-way, high-speed communications around user applications such as corporate network access, email exchange and social networking.

HSUPA technology, a 3G technology, improves the performance of uplink transport channels.

"By expanding the 3G/HSDPA network and deploying Motorola's HSUPA technology, MTC Kuwait will provide its subscribers with a richer mobile broadband experience," Ali Amer, vice president, Middle East, Africa & Pakistan, Home & Networks Mobility said.

"We anticipate that this first ever HSUPA network in the region will spur increased adoption of 3G as users enjoy the benefits of receiving and sending data in a truly interactive way," he added.
