Kevin Rollins, former CEO of Dell, has moved to a new role within private equity firm TPG Capital.

Rollins, who was replaced as CEO of Dell in February by chairman and company founder Michael Dell, is to act as a senior adviser focusing on investments in the technology and consumer sectors, TPG said.

TPG's technology-related investments include Freescale Semiconductor, software company SunGard Data Systems, and hard-drive maker Seagate.

Rollins' departure from Dell came after repeated calls for him to step down as Dell lost share in the PC market to rival HP.

Prior to joining the PC manufacturer, Rollins served as partner and director at consulting group Bain & Co, which is affiliated to top private equity firm Bain Capital.
