The Government body tasked with growing Egypt's IT sector - the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) - is heading to GITEX Technology Week for the second time this September, with the aim of helping the Republic's technology companies grow their exports.

ITIDA will organise and subsequently subsidise the show presence of between 20 and 25 key Egyptian IT players at this year's GITEX Business Solutions event, with these firms due to be hosted within ITIDA's Egyptian Pavilion.

"As the IT industry development agency we are responsible for the whole Egyptian pavilion at the show. We gather as many Egyptian IT companies as we can and subsidise their participation at this event," explains Wael Morgan, ITIDA's international exhibitions manager.

ITIDA, part of Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, is already working hard to make sure the companies representing the Republic's IT sector are the best fit organisations for this year's expo.

"We have a national strategy that focuses on different IT sub-sectors, which is one of the main competitive advantages of Egypt," says Morgan. "If we go to the Middle East then, and we see that a particular sub-sector fits within the GITEX exhibition, then we'll give priority to that sector of IT. We notify all the companies about our participation first, and those firms that apply we rank to fit with our strategy, and then we take the companies as per their ranking."

"Whilst Egyptian companies have now been represented at the show for a decade, the exhibition remains as crucial as ever," Morgan adds.
