Security specialist Sophos is to bring a new level of control to enterprises, as it warns Middle East firms of highly targeted attacks.

The security vendor will be showing off its latest range of products at GITEX Technology Week, including Sophos Antivirus 7, and enterprise-level network access control (NAC) systems. Kamel Heus, business development manager for international sales at Sophos, says the firm's new NAC offerings will allow enterprises to improve their levels of control significantly.

"This year we'll be bringing something amazing to the show - we're bringing a new vision to security. This is a vision not of just security, but security through control. We have a new vision of security - we don't believe it's only about keeping the bad stuff outside the network, but it is also about managing security internal security," says Heus.

"We will be one of the unique vendors out there doing anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware in the same engine - and at the same time doing NAC in the same engine as well," he adds.

NAC is one of the critical elements which can help enterprises protect themselves against highly-targeted attacks, as it prevents malware-laden systems from logging on to the network.

"The biggest security threats now are what we call ‘under the radar' - and these are very specific to the Middle East. We don't see people writing viruses - instead we see really targeted attacks, focused on specific organisations," says Heus.

"This could be to steal something from the organisation - confidential data, user data - or just to spy on the organisation. We are seeing more and more attacks of this type - hackers writing viruses and releasing them for just one or two hours, then withdrawing the virus after penetrating the target," says Heus of the new attacks.
