Energy City Qatar (ECQ) is to build a data centre through a joint collaboration with managed services provider NavLink.

The company behind the Gulf's first oil and gas industry hub has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the AT&T-affiliated NavLink to collaborate on the data centre, which will be used by tenants of ECQ.

"The Energy City Qatar Data Centre will be a crucial element to providing tenants with access to ultra-fast, uninterrupted communications across the globe," stated Energy City head of technology Mark Fuller.

"Energy City Qatar will install an advanced Data Node capable of directly interconnecting our residents with businesses and other Energy Cities around the world, using the fastest, most reliable technology available," he added.

Energy City Qatar is part of a massive development in the new city of Lusail, north of Doha. Currently under development, the city is expected to be ready for use by 2010.
