Sony Gulf, the Middle East arm of the Japanese electronics giant, is preparing to showcase a raft of new products at the Consumer Electronics segment of GITEX Technology Week with a dual goal of establishing itself as the number one brand for entertainment products in the region and boosting its profits.

"High definition (HD) will be the key focus for Sony this year, and we will highlight our HD portfolio and its unique entertainment capabilities," explains Osamu Miura, the managing director of Sony Gulf. "As a dynamic driver of the consumer transition to high-definition products, we will showcase new products from our BRAVIA range of HD LCD televisions, HD-enabled VAIO notebook computers, high mega pixel Cyber-shot digital still cameras, our Blu-ray disc player, and HD Handycam camcorders in all recording formats. These will enable consumers to access a wider variety of high resolution video sources at home and at work."

The company, which is already selling its Bravia screens, VAIO notebooks, camcorders and Cyber-shot cameras in the region, is convinced Consumer Electronics is key to its success and plans to once again use the show as a catalyst for growth. "It's the most comprehensive show of its kind and has real regional pull," explains Miura.
