Dubai-based Microsoft mobile device specialist i-mate will use its Consumer Electronics booth at this year's event from which to launch a brand new range of high-end smart handhelds.

"Our focus this September will be very much product driven, as GITEX Techno-logy Week is the perfect platform to launch new devices coming to this market for the first time," says Jack Crane, the general manager of i-mate Middle East. "And this year we'll be leading this with the launch of our ‘Ultimate' range of products. The two models we'll be launching and demonstrating on the stand will be the Ultimate 6150 and 8150, both of which really do exemplify the enhanced technologies we're bringing to Windows mobility."

Crane claims these products will be the world's first smartphones to feature ‘direct video out' functionality, which he suggests is truly a perfect addition for early adopter business users.

"This evolution means you can have everything you had on your laptop, now on a handheld. As a business user you can turn up to meeting, hook up your device to a monitor or screen, and present your Microsoft Powerpoint presentation just as normal," Crane explains.

Crane's company has undergone significant changes during the past year, both in terms of its hardware strategy and its internal structure, so Consumer Electronics will be key to helping it re-educate the market about its offer.

"The reorganisation of the business earlier this year," Crane adds, "was designed to provide us with a much more regionalised focus. So now the Middle East region is its own i-mate profit centre and we can therefore target the local market more flexibly than we could historically." For i-mate Middle East, GITEX Technology Week is simply, Crane states, "the single most important calendar event of the year".
