Taiwanese mobile device manufacturer and one time OEM for handheld vendors around the world, HTC, is preparing to launch a raft of new smartphone and PDA gadgets this September.

"This is our first GITEX Technology Week event, and the primary reason for us participating is to explain to people that we're here, we're our own brand, to show them the products, and to introduce our MEA team, which currently numbers around 30 people in total," explains Vishnu Vardhan, the firm's executive director for the Middle East and North Africa.

"For the event this year we'll be showcasing four brand new products, our flagship release being the HTC Shift," Vardhan continues. "This is a notebook kind of device, with a 7-inch screen and a proper keyboard and HSDPA or 3.5G functionality built-in. It can also run in one of two modes - the standard Windows Mobile mode or Windows Vista mode."

Since its arrival in the region earlier this year, when its Dubai office was launched, HTC has grown quickly by appointing key officials to focus on the market. Its regional office is led by Kevin Chen, general manager of HTC Middle East and Africa; Vishnu Vardhan himself, and Raef Alfawair, who is the firm's technical manager for the region.
