Components distributor Asbis has strengthened its portfolio after landing a distribution contract with ATI-based graphics card vendor Sapphire Technology.

The agreement with Sapphire covers the Middle East and North Africa, as well as large parts of Europe and gives Asbis the rights to sell the Hong Kong-based company's complete range of ATI Radeon video graphics accelerators and mainboards based on AMD chipset technology.

Asbis will promote its new partner's products throughout the geographies it serves, enabling system builders and resellers to obtain Sapphire technology via its distribution centres in Dubai and Prague.

Laurent Journoud, executive VP sales and marketing at Asbis (pictured), says the VGAs support the latest high-definition formats to enhance every aspect of PC entertainment. "Thanks to the new agreement with Sapphire we will be able to enhance our line-up of state of the art graphics products. We will also be able to respond more efficiently to the changing requirements of our customers," he claimed.

Sapphire, which employs more than 3,000 people worldwide, operates dual manufacturing facilities in China that are capable of churning out 1.8 million graphics boards per month.
