Green Packet Networks (GPN), a provider of broadband wireless solutions, is planning on expanding its partner base in the region, NME can reveal.

"We currently have a few partners in the region. We will look to add on to this progressively in some time and hope to have more than 20 partners by the end of the year covering the MENA region. These would include both distributors and system integrators," Samer Abbas, regional business development executive for GPN, said.

The US broadband wireless solution provider started its Middle East operations earlier this year launching a wireless broadband service in Bahrain in collaboration with Kalaam Telecom Bahrain, and setting up a joint venture with Saudi Economic and Development Company Group (SEDCO).

The firm is putting a big focus on the Middle East for growth, Michael Lai, director of GPN told NME.

"The Middle East is a market that holds a whole lot of potential for us. We are a young company and have worked our way up from the APAC market, where we are listed in Malaysia and this region is our next stage of growth. In this line, we are very interested in and working towards developing relationships with telecom providers and our partners as well," he said.

"Our main interest in the region remains the telecommunications sector. We have several products that allow telecom providers to offer better services to their customers and move up along the technology scale much faster. Our SON range of products, including SONaccess and SONmetro, allow carriers to unify wireless broadband provision and overcome traditional last mile problems effectively, allowing them to tap into a growing base of mobile users with multiple access devices," he added.

Lai said that at present the bulk of its revenues come from the telecom sector but the firm hopes that within in time more of its revenue will come from its enterprise products.

Green Packet's global customers include China Telecom Group, Maxis Communications Bhd, Far EasTone Telecommunications, Dell and BenQ.
