Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) is to be the first financial institution in the region to adopt Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Microsoft announced yesterday.

The bank is currently using the server operating system in a closed testing environment, a spokesperson for Microsoft told ITP.net.

"We are constantly looking at technology providers to help deliver solutions based on our business priorities and we strive to implement innovative technologies that will place our institution one step ahead of the competition," Lee North, head of IT at ADCB said.

"Our commitment to the early adoption of Windows Server 2008 reflects the added value that this new technology will bring to our institution and will help us adapt rapidly to changing business needs," he added.

Microsoft claims that Windows Server 2008, which until May was known under the codename ‘Longhorn', helps simplify administration tasks via improving event logging, task scheduling, enhanced remote management and scripting capabilities.

Approximately 70% of an IT budget is devoted to daily management tasks, according to the software giant.
