E-Hosting DataFort (EHDF) has replaced CEO Saeed Al-Barwani with former Mindscape head Mohamed Fouz, in a bid to improve its performance in the region.

The company appointed Fouz in May, after initially bringing him in as a consultant to advise the business following a decrease in market share.

"I had a call from TECOM, saying EHDF needed some attention. They wanted me to come in as a consultant and see what could be done. They saw growing opportunities in the region, but EHDF was losing market share," said Fouz.

Fouz said he intends to revamp EHDF's product offerings and offer end-to-end services to its customers. This will include complete managed IT services, as well as consulting services for firms engaged in datacentre deployments and other IT projects.

EHDF - which is fully-owned by TECOM, part of Dubai Holding - has previously been noted for its focus on public sector contracts.

Fouz acknowledged the majority of the firm's customers are in the Dubai government sector, but said it had a substantial and growing number of private enterprise and multinational organisations among its 400 clients.

"Dubai is growing so fast, and a lot of multinationals are coming here - I'm working out ways to partner with certain entities here in Dubai to encourage those companies to come to EHDF and our partners for joint services," said Fouz.

He said he planned to offer comprehensive IT services to new customers setting up in the region for the first time.

"For example, if a multinational bank wants to set up an office here, I just want them to come with their people - everything to do with IT, we should be able to take care of, from the desktop, to applications, servers, and the security and management," Fouz explained.

"The customer would just have to worry about setting up the office - we would take care of all the IT requirements. That's the total service-oriented model we're planning to do," he added.

Formerly CIO at Mashreqbank, Fouz set up the bank's IT services division Mindscape in 2002, and was CEO of the division until last year, when he left to start his own consultancy firm, specialising in Islamic banking. Fouz has around 18 years' experience in the regional IT industry.

EHDF currently maintains two datacentres in Dubai Internet City, and is in the planning stages of a new Tier III datacentre, to be opened next year.
