A UAE-based e-commerce company is launching what it claims will be the world’s biggest online catalogue of halal products — the Global Halal Exchange.

Vlinx, the firm behind the venture, which has offices in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, China, Canada and the US, hopes to seize a significant share of the world’s halal products market —a market it claims is worth US$2trillion globally — through the e-commerce platform.

Vlinx UAE plans to launch the Global Halal Exchange at the Dubai International Halal Show, which runs from September 11 to September 13.

The exchange will provide an online e-catalogue transaction engine for buyers and suppliers in the Halal trade and is aimed primarily at those involved in import and export.

Buyers will be able to source products from the suppliers listed in the catalogues and then carry out the procurement process online right through to the creation of purchase order via the website.

The site was created using technology from Oracle, IBM and Microsoft.

Sahba Hadipour, vice president of Vlinx, said: “We’re not an online procurement company, we are a web-based enterprise solution that companies subscribe to, and buyers and suppliers use to source and negotiate the trading of products.”

“And the beauty of our engine is you don’t have to leave the online catalogue system and go back to the traditional ways of doing business until the transaction is complete,” he claimed.

The Global Halal Exchange will be run from Vlinx’s offices in the UAE, China and the US.

Vlinx UAE is 51% owned by Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority and 49% by Vlinx.
