Academic institutions in Dubai wake up

For a long time, we have had students in the Middle East go abroad to complete their higher education, whether it be in filmmaking, media studies or broadcast engineering. Soon, there will come a time when there will no longer be a need for that.

I|~||~||~|For a long time, we have had students in the Middle East go abroad to complete their higher education, whether it be in filmmaking, media studies or broadcast engineering. Soon, there will come a time when there will no longer be a need for that. We have already seen several universities such as the American University of Sharjah and the Dubai Men’s College invest very heavily in studios and the production chain. However, for the first time, we also see that a school has started investing heavily in a production facility to train its children in broadcast and production. And the buck doesn’t stop there. There is already word, although much of it is confidential, that a couple of other schools, including one of the older players in Dubai, are going to follow suit with even bigger studio facilities and more sophisticated equipment. When I mentioned it to an ex-student, he complained that the school didn’t even have a decent canteen when he was studying there. But Dubai is on the threshold of change, and the academic sector that has so far, kept a low profile is now moving forward aggressively. If this continues, students here will no longer have to go to foreign shores to seek a better quality of education. The teachers are already here. What they used to decry was the lack of appropriate facility to aid them in training students. Now, this no longer seems to hold true. Stay tuned to Digital Studio for more updates on this topic and more. Until then, let's all head off to NAB to see what the vendors have in store for us.||**||
