NME turns the spotlight on network managers|~|jazza.jpg|~|Network Professional of the Year Richard Jasnau, the divisional manager of telco operations & infrastructure at Sahm Technologies, the technology arm of Emaar.|~|The network manager is an often-overlooked cog in the corporate machine. When awards are being dished out for innovation and excellence, it is rarely the network manager’s privilege to accept. The Network Middle East Innovation Awards sought to turn this sad state of affairs on its head. The inaugural awards ceremony in June played host to the cream of the networking world and placed those network professionals who have obtained excellence in implementations at the head of this community. A range of networking and IT stars were honoured at the ceremony including Network Professional of the Year Richard Jasnau, who is the divisional manager of telco operations & infrastructure at Sahm Technologies, the technology arm of Emaar; Derek Holland, head of Information Technology at Emirates Media, Rabih Itani, the network and security manager at the American University of Beirut, Sameer Khoory, IT manager at e-TQM College, and Soubhi Abdulkarim, IT manager at Aspire Sports Academy in Qatar. It is great that these guys and their teams have received credit for implementations that are largely taken for granted by the wider world. A great example is the Aspire Sports Academy. If Qatar starts to turn out gold medallists and international footballers in the next ten years, it is doubtful if anyone will remember the cutting edge network that helped those players to hone their skills. And yet it is a vital piece in the puzzle. Network Middle East seeks to highlight how the network plays a vital role in keeping the wheels of industry, commerce and society turning. The Innovation Awards has given the networking industry the boost it deserves for its role as the foundation beneath the huge growth enjoyed by the regional economy. Unfortunately, these moments are all too rare but it is our job to take the network manager out of the office and into the spotlight (at least once in a while). It is Network Middle East’s mission, through the Innovation Awards, monthly magazines and fortnightly newsletters to not only deliver pertinent news and analysis for network professionals but also fight to give them the recognition they deserve in the wider business world.||**||
