The device combines deep inspection firewall, IPSec VPN, gateway anti-virus, intrusion prevention, and content filtering capabilities with a wire-speed, 24-port auto-sensing MDIX Layer 2 switch. The rackmountable security appliance ships in an unrestricted node configuration and supports SonicWall’s portfolio of security services. The vendor sees the solution providing the convenience of a scalable, all-in-one solution with low total-cost-of-ownership. SonicWall claims the device offers a powerful deep packet inspection firewall and protects against malicious attacks at all layers of the network, whether they originate from outside or from internal sources. Integrated gateway anti-virus and intrusion prevention support secures the network from the core to the perimeter against a comprehensive array of dynamic threats including viruses, worms, Trojans, software vulnerabilities such as buffer overflows and spyware programs, as well as peer-to-peer and instant messenger applications, backdoor exploits, and other malicious code. The device also incorporates wizards designed to simplify device configuration, VPN set-up and public server configuration. It also supports Dynamic Domain Name Service (DDNS), which the vendor claims reduces the costs associated with hosting e-mail servers, web servers and site-to-site VPN by allowing the use of dynamic IP addresses. The optional port can also be configured as a demilitarised zone (DMZ) for public facing servers or internet resources. The PRO 1260 can be centrally managed as part of a distributed network deployment using SonicWALL’s award-winning Global Management System software.||**||
