Be resolute in Dubai|~||~||~|With less than two weeks to go before the New Year, I have no doubt most of you are already drawing up your resolutions. You remember resolutions –– those plans you come up with at the end of a year only to break at the start of the year. Well this year I have decided I will make five, not just for me but also on behalf of everyone who lives and works in Dubai. So here goes: 1.That just once, only once, in the next 12 months, I receive a bill from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority which vaguely matches the correct amount. OK, maybe even within 70% of the correct figure would be good. 2.That sometime in the next 12 months – actually no, let’s say 12 years – I can sit through an entire evening of watching the Showtime package on my television without it suddenly stopping and saying “E16 is unscrambled.” 3.And that when the above happens, and I phone Showtime to complain, they don’t say: “Yes, we know.” 4.That when in the course of the next year I sign up and pay up for a new apartment, I actually end up moving into the one I first choose. And preferably within six months of the date I was told I could move in. 5.That on one occasion when I drive down the Sheikh Zayed Road (just one occasion please), I do not end my journey cursing all drivers in Abu Dhabi and being grateful for still being alive. I could go on forever. But that would just be complaining for the sake of it. Deep down, like the rest of you, I rather like the sun, security, no tax, BurJuman Centre, Wild Wadi, and yes, even Etisalat. So my real resolution is to still be living here next year. Make it yours too… ||**||
