The waiting game

HP finally made the first announcements about its new structure last week. The company unveiled complete product road maps and the staff that would head up each business unit of the new company in the Middle East... and that was about it.

HP finally made the first announcements about its new structure last week. The company unveiled complete product road maps and the staff that would head up each business unit of the new company in the Middle East... and that was about it.

No one can could say yet what the new channel structure would be, which staff would be in charge of the channel, even which offices would house the new company.

There was some good news for the channel—while HP worldwide is planning on driving more of its PC business through direct routes to market, web sales in particular, the company admits that this won’t work in this region, the channel will be the preferred sales route. Other than that however, there was not much to report.

Over 1,000 staff of both HP and Compaq have spent over one million hours setting the direction for the new company, but unfortunately most of that work seems to have gone into creating the product road map. For most other enquiries, including the job security of the majority of the staff of the combined company, the answer is still ‘wait and see’.
