Mobile phone retailer i2 was last night selected as the fastest growing company of the year at the Arabian Business magazine Saudi Achievement Awards 2007. The awards were organised by ITP, publisher of the ITP.net website, and took place at the Riyadh Four Seasons Hotel. The mobile phone provider, which launched in 1993 as itsalat international, has been on a rapid growth drive since it rebranded 18 months ago as i2. Within the last year, the firm has increased its awareness in the region by developing various subsidiaries such as i2 club, i2 magazine, i2 tv, i2 café, and i2 logistics. It has also expanded its regional and global footprint through acquisitions of Dubai firm Cellempower, computer retailer CompuMe, and UK mobile handset provider Allied TC as well as tie-ups with retailers such as Egyptian firm Omar Afandy. These efforts have clearly been paying off with the firm recording revenues of US$1.3 billion for 2006, up from US$837 million, and predicting it will double its turnover in 2007. “We are very grateful to have received this prestigious award before such a distinguished audience,” said Abdul Hameed Al Sunaid, CEO of i2 Group. “The recognition deserves to go to all of our dedicated employees at i2, however, who have made the company a success story, deserving of its exceptional performance year after year.” “i2’s growth has been due to a combination of strong branding and a commitment to customer service, along with vision and drive,” he added. Based in Saudi Arabia, i2 currently operates in 22 markets throughout the Middle East and Africa. For the full list of winners, click here.
