Bahraini company Mena Telecom is finalising plans to roll out a WiMax network across the Kingdom, it said today. The telco said it has been working closely with a number of unnamed vendors and is in the final stage of negotiations on the project. “We are finalising plans to roll out a state-of-the-art WiMax network,” Abdulhakeem Al Khayyat, chairman of Mena Telecom and general manager of Kuwait Finance House, stated. “Our aim is to bring the latest technology in the world to the Kingdom in order to make Bahrain one of the leaders of WiMax technology deployment worldwide, and to continue Bahrain's tradition of being the first in the Gulf for introducing new telecom technology,” he added. Mena said the technology will enable it to provide a range of services including wireless broadband, fixed telephony and VoIP bundles. The operator was one of two winners of national fixed wireless services licences awarded last year, the other being MTC-Vodafone Bahrain.
