Netgear has announced a turnover of US$2 million in its first six months of operations in the Middle East, confirming the new arrival as a major player in the regional sector.

The company puts its success down to its innovative and userfriendly range of products, which cover key areas, such as wireless networking, LAN hubs and switches, power over Ethernet, and voice over internet protocol (VoIP).

“The phenomenal growth of the wireless market in the region signifies the advanced level of technology use here in the Middle East. According to market analyst ABI Research, Wi-Fi enabled consumer electronic devices are expected to grow to 249 million by 2011, up from 40 million this year,” said Ahmad Zeidan, channel sales manager, for Netgear Middle East.

“We aim to leverage our presence in the Middle East as the number one networking products provider and are willing to join hands with experienced current and future channel partners to achieve our objective of 200% growth for the coming year.”

One of the advanced products Netgear has built its success around is the Skype-certified Wi-Fi phone, the SPH101. This device allows users to make Skype calls without using a PC – it connects directly to a wireless network, and offers full functionality to call other Skype contacts for free, or use the paid-for SkypeOut service to call landlines or mobiles anywhere in the world.

While Skype and other VoIP services remain tightly controlled in some countries in the region, many more are embracing the technology. Netgear’s Skype product puts it ahead of its competitors, and in prime position to take advantage of VoIP growth.

“We are glad to bring the Netgear Wi-Fi phone for Skype to the region. Our phone is the ideal solution for die-hard Skype users who are now able to take advantage of Netgear’s innovative wireless networking technology.

“With a proven track record in delivering cutting-edge technologies, we have earned a reputation as the preferred go-to partner worldwide and we intend to extend our position in the entire Middle East,” added Zeidan.
