Etisalat Egypt has announced it has garnered more than 300,000 subscribers since its launch on May 1. The company, which is 66% owned by Etisalat, also reported high traffic for its data services; approximately 75% of its customers are accessing data services across its 3.5G network, the operator said. Etisalat currently offers high-speed data connectivity in over 40 cities in Egypt. According to a report by Reuters, Etisalat Egypt is planning to spend up to US$1.41 billion over the next three years on developing its infrastructure. This is on top of an initial US$351 million investment in building base stations and core networks. Etisalat won a 15-year, renewable licence to provide GSM and 3G mobile services in Egypt in July 2006.
