Juniper wins Saudi network deal

Fledgling data service provider Bayanat Al-oula has appointed Juniper Networks to build its IP/MPLS –based next-generation network across Saudi Arabia.

Fledgling data service provider Bayanat Al-oula has appointed Juniper Networks to build its IP/MPLS –based next-generation network across Saudi Arabia. Bayanat said that Juniper was the sole vendor selected to work on the network, which would be based on Juniper’s M-and T-series multi-service edge and core routers. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Bayanat, which plans to launch commercial services mid-2007, said that the network would enable it to offer a range of services such as voice, data, video and IPTV throughout the Kingdom. “The new network is a significant investment in the company’s future as it will be the platform that underpins our entire growing portfolio of IP services,” said Abdulmajeed Elshawa, CEO at Bayanat. “We have carefully evaluated various routing solutions from a number of world-class vendors and Juniper’s technology has consistently delivered unmatched reliability, performance and flexibility in a cost effective package,” he added. Juniper said that in addition to providing routers, it was also supplying Bayanat with support services for the design and implementation of the network. “The Middle East is a very competitive marketplace with numerous providers vying to attract subscribers with a wide range of services to the home and the office,” commented Gert-Jan Schenk, vice president of operations, EMEA for Juniper Networks. “Quality, performance and reliability differentiate successful service providers, so the total trust Bayanat is prepared to put in Juniper’s routing technology and networking expertise is highly gratifying. We look forward to demonstrating that its confidence in us is fully justified,” he added.
