AMD has confirmed the addition a new management layer to its regional set-up by naming Gautam Srivastava as VP sales and marketing, and managing director, for MEA and Pakistan. The move redefines AMD’s chain of command in the Middle East with regional director Gaith Kadir now reporting directly into Srivastava. Srivastava is understood to have taken up the post last month and will assume broad management of AMD’s operations as the company’s most senior executive in the region. He will be based in Dubai and report into the CPU vendor’s corporate VP sales and marketing for high growth markets, Gustavo Arenas. AMD claims Srivastava’s appointment represents a “sharpened focus” by AMD in the region and in particular on Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. His task will be to focus on establishing long-term relationships with partners and key customers, particularly governments and large enterprises. AMD also has a global campaign — dubbed the 50x15 initiative — to empower 50% of the world’s population with internet access by 2015 and Srivastava will front that push in this region. “The Middle East, Africa and Pakistan represent the next wave of growing world economies,” said Srivastava. “The changes and progress to come are exciting and compelling. Through its technologies and solutions, AMD is committed to enabling governments, enterprises and consumers in the region to realize these ambitions. Furthermore, AMD is committed to a long-term presence in the region, with headquarters in Dubai and branch operations in South Africa,” he added. AMD insists that existing regional boss Kadir will continue to be “heavily involved” in the region with a focus on tenders and building relationships with strategic accounts in the corporate and government sectors. Kadir commented: “Gautam brings outstanding business, customer and operational experience to the region. We look forward to his insight and guidance as AMD broadens our footprint and focus in this region.” Regional distribution manager, Abdallah Saqqa, will also report directly into Srivastava. He remains in his existing role of overseeing relationships and operations with distributors in the region.
