Many small and medium businesses in the region are not aware of the benefits of IP telephony claims Avaya’s channel and marketing director, Roger El-Tawil. In an exclusive interview with Windows magazine, El-Tawil stated, “There is an education job that needs to be done in the region with regards to this technology and its advantages and Avaya is trying to do its part by continually holding road shows, webinars and conferences.” The statement comes as Avaya launched a new all-in-one IP telephony solution in Dubai today. The solution includes Avaya IP Office Standard edition and IP Office 500 server and is aimed at small and medium businesses. The new solution is designed to allow SMBs to make phone calls within an office or to other offices over a wide area network (WAN). At the product launch event, Tawil stated, “We created Avaya IP Office specifically for small businesses. It has the right entry-level price, is affordable, has ‘big business’ communications capabilities, and options for companies to add more capabilities, capacities or locations as their business grows. It enables SMBs to buy only what they need today, while easily adding users or functionality via software licenses, which are also compatible with existing IP Office solutions,” stated El-Tawil. On the feature front, the solution offers SMBs a 64-party conferencing suite, which includes webcast functionality. It can also integrate with back-end databases to allow interactive voice responses and text-to-speech and can provide call center applications. According to Avaya, the complete solution acts as an SIP gateway, whether the SMB has digital, analog or IP phones. Businesses can subscribe to new SIP trunking services and significantly reduce calling costs claims the firm. Its new IP Office Release 4.0 software and IP Office 500 communications server are available through Avaya’s network of resellers. Installation and support will be provided by the firm’s business partners and distributors based around the region. According to El-Tawil, the minimum an SMB will have to invest to implement the solution is US $2000.
