Sony has introduced the first model of its new Vaio L series - the VCG-LA38G - which it claims is the world’s first ‘portable panel PC’. “The Viao L series is an entirely new form factor for the PC and brings a brand new dimension to entertainment and work at home, stated Mr. Osamu Miura, managing director of Sony Gulf. “I believe the series will appeal to the style-conscious who still demand PC intelligence,” he added. Designed to suit both smart office and living room environments, the L series is similar looks-wise to a small LCD TV with PC components inside and a flip-down keyboard. The LA28G boasts an 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, 1Gbyte of RAM and a 120Gbyte hard disk. The PC also includes a 15.4” LCD, which features a supporting stand behind it to allow the screen to tilt between 12 to 30 degrees. In terms of connectivity, the LA28G comes with four USB 2.0 ports, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth functionality. For those who wish to video chat with far-flung friends and family, a built-in VGA webcam and microphone are included. Furthermore, the unit can double as a stereo, with sound enhanced by a Sound Reality audio chip and two 3-watt speakers. Sony’s panel PC comes pre-loaded with Windows Vista Home Premium edition and includes apps such as Adobe Premier Elements 3.0, Vaio video and photo utility 1.0 and Click to DVD 2.6. The Sony Viao VCG-LA38G is available in stores across the region for US $2178.
