Networking vendor Avaya has announced the winners of its 2006 BusinessPartner Awards following its recent partner event. According to the vendor, over 200 partners attended the conference but only 10 regional players took home accolades to celebrate their accomplishments over the past year. UAE-based distributor Almasa won the highly-acclaimed ‘2006 Power of One’ award. Future Technology received ‘Partner of the Year 2006’ in the category of IP Telephony while Egyptian outfit Orascom took home the same accolade for expertise in contact centre applications. UAE’s Aptec and Lebanon’s Libatel shared honours for ‘SME Distributor of the Year’ and Saudi’s A.S. Bugshan and Bros. was named Avaya’s ‘SME Reseller of the Year’. “Avaya’s growth in the Middle East and North Africa depends directly on our association with our business partners,” said Roger El-Tawil, channel and marketing director for Avaya MENA. “More than 60% of our revenue for EMEA — excluding Germany — in 2006 has been achieved through our channel partners. Partners are integral to our success; we consider them as an extension of the Avaya team.” El-Tawil claims that recognising partners’ efforts in 2006 will not only create confidence and motivation in the channel but states that the event is also a key opportunity to highlight the key growth opportunities in the region for 2007. “We will continue to reinforce our partnerships through a clear channel strategy, scalable channel infrastructure, and value-based programs, ensuring success through leveraging and obtaining new capabilities to increase market share,” he added. Other honours included Qatar’s Momenta landing the award for ‘Project of the Year’ following its contribution to the Avaya Contact Centre delivered in last year’s Asian Games in Doha. East Meets West took home the gong for Avaya’s ‘Partner of the Year for converged solutions’, whereas the ‘Partner of the Year for Delivering Customer Satisfaction’ went to Jordanian company Artelco.
