Software giant Microsoft recently held its first ever ‘System Builder Channel Awards’ ceremony in Dubai, in an effort to reward growth in its recently created OEM division. Microsoft’s most successful channel partners took home a memento of their accomplishments in 2006. Tolga Altinordu, recently-appointed OEM director at Microsoft, addressed channel partners at the recent ceremony: “2006 has been a year of evolution within Microsoft Gulf with the establishment of the new OEM organisation in July 2006. By merging three divisions into one – Multi National Accounts, Named Accounts and System Builder Channel – we have created a more focused and aligned entity that is dedicated to the empowerment of local teams to drive the right investments and strategies as per the local dynamics.” The scheme has been introduced to reward channel partners in the UAE who have contributed significantly to Microsoft’s OEM goals in 2006. These goals include: the prevention of piracy, the growth PC/server penetration across the region and to accelerate the penetration of mobile devices across the region. Quality Computers received the accolade of ‘Best Overall Partner’; by achieving the highest revenue across all the OEM channel partners and contributing the most to tackling piracy, in the vendor’s estimation. Al Suwaidi Computers performed the ‘best joint marketing campaign’ with Microsoft and contributed the most to Microsoft’s ‘PC/Server penetration’ initiative. Musallam Trading received the ‘fastest growing company award,’ finishing 2006 as the vendor’s highest growing OEM partner and Alpha Data Abu Dhabi achieved the highest OEM office and server revenue last year, and was consequently awarded ‘best office and server performance’. Microsoft plans to repeat the initiative in the other Gulf countries and intends to make this ceremony an annual event.
