Middle East channel job carousel picks up speed

The job carousel in the Middle East IT channel is showing all the signs of picking up the pace again following news that at least two well-known faces on the channel circuit have chosen the New Year period to head for pastures new.

The job carousel in the Middle East IT channel is showing all the signs of picking up the pace again following news that at least two well-known faces on the channel circuit have chosen the New Year period to head for new pastures. K.V. Narayanan has swapped one global technology manufacturer for another by bringing down the curtain on his career at electronics giant Samsung and making the short trip across Dubai Internet City to HP. Narayanan joined HP earlier this month in a role that sees him reporting directly to regional Solutions Provider Organisation manager Salim Ziade. Ziade confirmed the latest addition to HP’s partner team: “[Narayanan] has joined us as an account manager for distribution in the UAE and Gulf,” he said. “He will manage the distribution companies and look after our distribution strategy in the Middle East.” Narayanan’s new position does not include responsibility for the Saudi market, but it is likely to see him build close relationships with some of the region’s top wholesalers. A host of distributors, including Emitac, Tech Data, Redington and Magirus, carry exhibits from HP’s diverse product portfolio. Narayanan’s former job as sales and marketing manager at Samsung’s digital IT arm has been handed to Anupam Brila, who previously worked as marketing manager for advertising and promotions in the same division. Over in the distribution channel, Aman Sangar is enjoying his final day as marketing manager at Tech Data Middle East before beginning a new post with Microsoft Gulf next week. “I will become the channel marketing manager for the retail and home entertainment division, which covers every Microsoft product you can buy in a retail store from Xbox to Vista,” he revealed. Sangar is set to work for Armagan Demir, head of the vendor’s entertainment and devices division, where he will be responsible for developing Microsoft’s consumer focused channel at both a retail and distribution level. His switch from the distribution sector to vendor land comes after a four-year stint at Tech Data. “This is the chance for a new opportunity so I thought I would try something different,” he explained. Sangar’s departure comes less than two months after Tech Data Middle East boss Hanspeter Eiselt brought in Kerstin Schulz from the events team at racing syndicate BMW Oracle to run the company’s regional marketing activities. Meanwhile, the PC market is waiting to find out where former Toshiba Middle East and Africa boss Ahmed Khalil will turn up next after he called time on his seven-year association with the notebook vendor at the end of last year. The identity of his next employer is set to be revealed before the end of the month with Khalil confirming that he is committed to making a choice “within one week”. “There are opportunities that I am considering very carefully but I haven’t taken a final decision,” he added. “I intend to stay in the Middle East as emerging markets present a huge growth opportunity and a positive challenge. In Europe it is a different type of challenge — how to sustain what you have done. But in high-growth markets the challenge is how to grow faster than the market.”
