IT colossus IBM plans to open a new centre in Dubai designed to address the growing regional demand for the skills needed to solve business problems using service oriented architectures (SOA). IBM believes that customers, business partners and university students will all benefit from the launch of the SOA leadership centre in the UAE — one of eight such centres planned around the world. In addition to the proposed Dubai SOA centre, Big Blue has also confirmed that it will open a facility in La Gaude, France, with further centres expected to open in Asia, North America, South America and Northern Europe. “Opening these centres is a direct response to what our customers are demanding,” said Jason Weisser, VP and chief technology officer, SOA advance technology at IBM. “IBM has helped thousands of early SOA adopters successfully solve some of today's most challenging business problems using SOA.” “Now the SOA Leadership Centres can help customers develop the skills and knowledge to help enable them to use an SOA to attain business goals. Partnering with local universities will also be a major focus of the centres, with a goal of building SOA skills in the emerging work force in these key markets,” he added. Each centre will be staffed by IBM SOA experts and will focus on three core areas: SOA education and training; SOA implementation support; and SOA exhibitions and demonstrations. Implementation support services will include expert assistance and strategic direction on a customer’s specific SOA implementation spanning key areas of the SOA lifecycle such as model, assemble, deploy, manage and governance.
