The committee for the 2007 Pan Arab Web Awards is currently accepting entries in a bid to honour the best of the web in the region. The annual competition, which is in its third year, recognises excellence in web design and development skills. According to its organisers, the main aim of the competition is to develop professional and international standards of excellence in web design and creation throughout the Arab region. The deadline for submissions is January 31 and interested parties can register their website(s) here. According to the official website for the awards, the Pan Arab Web Awards is a competition for web and business developers in the Pan Arab region with five main objectives: • Promote the spirit of innovation and creativity • Raise the standards of web design and websites • Advocate growth and development of local talents • Promote intellectual property awareness • Encourage all sectors to become involved in the digital economy. In terms of award types, there will be 24 categories including art and design, e-commerce, corporate and entertainment and health services. Like last year’s awards, in each category three winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. This year the committee has added a new award to the competition called the ‘Web Company of the Year’, which will be awarded to the company that wins the most awards. Pierre Moukarzel, president of the Awards committee commented, “The 'Web Company of the Year' award plays an important role in the national and Pan Arab IT industry encouraging companies to present more creative websites to provide a global exposure to their outstanding efforts”.
