Fairford plc has signed UK-based Intent21 as the exclusive distributor for its Rogue Penguin Linux server software across the Middle East. The deal follows a meeting between the two companies at Gitex 2006, where Intent21 was present to witness the launch of the software. Adrian Gleave, managing director at Intent21, said: “We are looking forward to working with Fairford Plc and Rogue Penguin. Our stand at the event was visited by hundreds of interested companies from all over the world, including Oracle and Red Hat, who are extremely impressed with our Rogue Penguin Linux based server software. We have begun discussions with several companies in Dubai and the Middle East regarding sub-distribution of Rogue Penguin within our trading territory.” Rogue Penguin was developed for people with no Linux or UNIX experience and has been designed so that it will automatically configure itself as either an enterprise server or a feature-packed desktop. Linux is the primary operating system for back-end processes, and Fairford believes that its reliability, security, control and cost now makes it the preferred server amongst small to medium sized businesses. Nicholas Hardy, trading manager at Intent21, added: “It is an exciting time in the world of software. No longer do companies have to rely on Microsoft MYsql and the inherent problems that occur. Linux server software is the secure, safe and manageable way forward. With Rogue Penguin not only do you not have to worry about the integrity of your data you also don't have to worry about the cost. With a belief of open standards of ownership, Rogue Penguin has revolutionised the total cost of the software. With only a one off payment to make, when you purchase Rogue Penguin we have turned the traditional user license on its head.”
