Empost delivers with latest technology initiative

Empost, the UAE’s national courier company is splashing out US$1.6m to install advanced IT communications systems from Cisco in its 425-strong fleet of delivery vans and motorcycles.

Empost, the UAE’s national courier company is splashing out US$1.6m to install advanced IT communications systems from Cisco in its 425-strong fleet of delivery vans and motorcycles. The project forms part of Empost’s ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency and customer services. Under the upgrade plan, Empost courier vehicles will be equipped with wireless communications technologies including a GPRS mobile data service and GPS satellite-based navigation systems plus messaging and tracking systems. The system, provided by Cisco, updates itself automatically and will also include a billing programme making it easier for customers to pay online. In keeping with its strategic plans, Empost strives to adopt international best practices in the industry to improve the quality of services in the country and extend the reach of its services to cover more international destinations.” “The new IT communications system will make Empost’s services speedier, more reliable and efficient and will allow customers to track their parcels and documents with ease and precision, thus meeting the demands of a fast-paced global economy,” Al Midfa added. To help its employees adapt to the new technology, Empost will conduct training sessions for more than 700 staff both inside and outside the UAE. The internal training for Empost staff will be provided in cooperation with the Emirates Post training centre. Tahseen Al Malalha, manager of finance, administration and IT at Empost, said: “This investment by Empost to upgrade its technology and communications system, once again reinforces our commitment to deliver maximum value to our customers. The enhanced system will not only ensure better service to the customer, it will also contribute to greater efficiency and productivity internally. Investment in such a system was essential considering the major expansion Empost is witnessing.” Empost will benefit from ‘track and trace’ technology using the GPS system, whereby each field agent will have a handheld scanner that will work as a tracking systems, showing in real time the status of the item dispatched. Customers can track the progress of their parcels online after entering a password.
