Vos Logistics has awarded a US$20 million contract to Amana Contracting & Steel Buildings for the design and build of a logistics terminal in Mesaieed Industrial City, Qatar. The complex sits on an area of approximately 100,000m2 and will be constructed on a design-build basis in 20 months, commencing this month, and using over 1000 tonnes of steel. “We partnered with Amana as they could not only deliver the quality and service on this particular project, but they were also able to provide turnkey solutions elsewhere around the region in line with our expansion plans for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman,” said Marc Van Alphen, managing director of silo projects at Vos Logistics. The logistics platform, which is scheduled to become operational at the end of 2008, will be located adjacent to the Arabian Gulf. It will comprise four buildings, including a 56,000m2 covered warehouse, 14,5000m3 silo storage, two fully automatic and mobile packing lines, 20 loading docks and container storage. Once completed, it will facilitate the storage and handling of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) granules for Qatar Petrochemical Company’s Qatofin plant. “More and more companies in the oil and gas as well as the logistics sectors in Qatar and across the region are recognising Amana’s reputation for delivering high quality, turnkey solutions on time and within budget,” said Chebel Bsaibes, chief executive officer, Amana Contracting & Steel Buildings. “We have had a very successful year to date, sealing more than 35 projects across the region. We are very happy with the relationship with Vos Logistics and we look forward to building on it across the region,” he added.
