Sense Gourmet has signed a master franchising agreement with US chain Figaros Pizzas to embark on its widespread introduction of the brand. Creating more than 6,000 jobs in the region, the first five outlets will in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, and are expected to open by March. Future outlets are planned for Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt and Lebanon. Sense Gourmet, a subsidiary of Foodco Holding, follows research into the Middle East’s pizza market, which found a demand for fresh, uncooked pizzas. “Our studies showed there is an unfilled niche in the Middle East for high quality products, especially for fresh pizzas that people can take home and bake for themselves,” said Ahmed bin Ali Khalfan Al Dhahry, managing director, Foodco Holding. Figaros Pizza’s pioneered the ‘take and bake’ concept in the US in 1981, originally selling only fresh pizza for takeaway. The company added ovens to its outlets a decade later and now operates 100 outlets across the US and Canada.
