Notebook vendor Acer has announced the appointment of Shashank Sharma as country manager for KSA, Egypt and East Africa. He will officially assume the position in January 2007 and has his sights set on achieving a greater penetration of the markets under his control. “I am keen to assert strong team-building skills fostered in my previous role, and apply this across all the new territories under my responsibility. I will ensure they are consistently and coherently administered. I believe this will help mirror – if not better – Acer’s global growth rate here in the Middle East,” he said. After having accumulated experience in Acer’s office in South Africa where he was previously the commercial manager for the country, including the southern African territories and Mauritius, Sharma understands Acer’s global strategy and is under no illusions of the importance of the markets he is overseeing. “On a global scale, Acer is undergoing massive expansion and the Middle East in particular is realising exceptional growth rates,” he said. “With Egypt and KSA two of the largest markets in the Middle East, my new role is an integral part of Acer’s continued growth in the MEA region. Having previously had responsibility for a multiple market portfolio across southern Africa, I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities here in the Middle East,” Sharma concluded. The appointment follows a declaration from Emanuele Accolla, VP at Acer EMEA, last month that Acer will aggressively attempt to further its position in the worldwide PC market, eyeing a top three place in 2007.
