A construction worker has died and another has suffered injuries after part of a crane came crashing down through a concrete slab and onto the workers sleeping underneath it on the Bahrain City Centre project. Speaking to Construction Week, a spokesperson from Cebarco WCT, the main contractor on the project, said: “The man who was killed was resting with colleagues in a restricted area where they should not have been. We were making some changes to one of the tower cranes; a gear failed while we were jacking the crane. That resulted in one of the tower sections dropping about 20m and landing on a precast slab under which the workers were resting.” He also said that the company was organising compensation for the worker’s family and running an investigation into why the crane malfunctioned.
