Dubai Municipality and the UAE Ministry of Labour are set to join forces to carry out labour inspections and improve online services. The announcement follows instructions from HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai, UAE minister of finance and industry and chairman of DM, for greater cooperation between Dubai Municipality and the Ministry in tackling labour issues in the country. The UAE minister of labour and social affairs, Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka’abi said that his visit to the municipality was aimed at familiarising himself with the civic body’s experience in labour inspection, ensuring vocational health and safety and the functioning of customer service centres in different parts of the city. “This visit is part of our efforts to accomplish the ministry’s vision of establishing an effective administration for labour affairs in the country. We also seek to improve the legislative and monitoring frameworks in this field in order to accomplish a harmonious balance between the interests of the employees and the employers on one hand, and the economic interests of the nation on the other. In the meantime, we also ensure UAE nationals’ participation in the economic and social growth of the country,” he said. Hussain Nasser Lootah, acting director general, DM, briefed the minister about the steps being taken by the municipality in the field of e-government and online services. He also said that coordination between the Ministry of Labour and DM would have to be strengthened and that the municipality was willing to yield all its resources for the benefit of various government establishments in the country. The officials also discussed the prospect of sharing database of companies and establishments.
