Lebanon-based mobile services specialist MobiKick SARL has launched 'MobiSwap', a service designed to help UAE users change their mobile phone contacts before December’s 050 deadline. From December 15 onwards, the UAE’s telecoms regulator – the TRA – is requiring residents to prefix any Etisalat mobile phone numbers with 050; a move that pre-empts the launch of telco ‘du’s own phone services thereafter. Detailed last week on itp.net, MobiKick's 'MobiSwap' service helps users automatically update all their Etisalat mobile phone contacts, rather than having to manually amend each stored contact number. Phone users simply need to download software onto their PC, sync this across to their phone and start the program. MobiSwap will then send an automatic SMS activation request to MobiKick and once activated the software will add the 050 prefix to all the phone numbers that require it (both numbers stored in the phone’s memory and those stored on the SIM card). The cost for each set of SIM card contacts amended is AED10, charged via premium-rate SMS. MobiSwap supports the following phone models: Windows Mobile for Pocket PC (such as i-mate's PDA2K and Jam handhelds), Windows Mobile for Smartphone devices, Nokia's Series 60 handsets (Nokia 6600, 6680, N70, N90 etc.) and Series 80 (Nokia Communicator) phones, plus UIQ devices such as Sony Ericsson's P800 and P900 models.
