Spa professionals from the region descended on Dubai for the Spa Management Basics workshop held by Beauty Leaders at the Park Hyatt Dubai from October 28 to 29. The educational forum was the first of its kind to address the specific needs of the Middle East’s fast-growing spa industry, the organisers claimed. “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the response we received. People have flown in from around the region,” said keynote speaker at the event, Dagmar Rizzato, general manager of Rizzato Spa Consulting. “This is the first time anyone has really tried to address the issues and concerns of spa professionals here in an unbiased and informative way and the industry has really leapt at the chance to further its own development,” she added. The event tackled issues ranging from the tasks and position of the spa manager, guest expectations and psychology, to sales transparency, reporting and controlling, operating tools and quality management in the spa. “The heart of this training centres around the organisation, development, management and controlling of a spa,” Rizzato explained. “This initial workshop was really about assessing the level of interest and the level of understanding that exists here, so that we can build on this in the future with more advanced forums addressing the everyday issues specific to the industry in this region.” Based on the positive feedback Beauty Leaders has received following the event, the company has started to make arrangements for a second event, to be held in March 2007 for five days. This Advanced Spa Management Workshop will build on the key points of interest arising from the first forum, according to Rizzato. “The international perspective that Rizzato is able to bring in her presentation is definitely appreciated by the spa community here. Providing this type of platform, where the industry can come together, discuss ideas and get advice on all their problem areas, will really help to drive and support the ongoing development of the booming spa market in this region.”
