British Airways’ newly appointed area commercial manager, Middle East & Pakistan, Paul Starrs, literally did a runner to New York last month where he took part in the New York Marathon. Starrs completed the 26-mile feat in three hours, 29 minutes, beating his NYC Marathon record and only just falling short of his all time best – three hours, 22 minutes, which he achieved at the London Marathon in April. At the New York Marathon in 2004 and 2005, his times were 4 hours, two minutes and 3 hours, 46 minutes respectively, so Starrs is obviously improving with age and experience. Training for the event though was tough, he said, because when he moved to Dubai in June, the weather was starting to hot up and running outside was impossible. “I was chained to the treadmill instead,” he revealed. So impressed with Starrs’ efforts are his colleagues at BA’s office in Dubai that two of them will join him for the Dubai 10K Marathon on January 12 – his direct sales manager and an IT technician.
