LiteOn has updated its DVD writer portfolio with the launch of its LH-20A1P and LH-20A1H drives. Both burners can write to single-layer DVD+R and DVD-R discs at 20x speed. The drives, which the company claims are the fastest DVD burners in the world, also offer 8x burn speeds to dual-layer disc, whether these media are based on the +R or –R standard. Additionally, the new IDE drives can write to CDs at 48x and because they are half height designs they’ll fit in small form factor (SFF) machines. Both drives are equipped with LiteOn’s ‘Smart-Write’ technology, which the company claims ensures better write quality by studying media before burning data to disc. The only difference between the two drives is that the LH-20A1H includes Lightscribe technology. This enables users to burn basic text or images onto compatible Lightscribe discs using the same laser used by the drive to write data to the disc. Both drives are expected to be available in the region by early 2007.
