The region’s biggest-selling monthly computing magazine, ITP’s ‘Windows Middle East’, held its prestigious annual awards ceremony last week to recognise the very best IT and consumer electronics releases of the past twelve months. The annual gathering saw over a hundred vendors and product specialists from across the region help the Windows team celebrate the hottest kit and customer service available. The ceremony itself was held at Dubai World Trade Centre in ITP Business’ exclusive VIP area, with guests treated to unmissable networking opportunities and, of course, the chance to pick up one or more of 26 Windows gongs. The ceremony’s award categories were divided into three sections in all: consumer winners, reader voted prizes and SMB-focused awards. The biggest winner on the day was the region’s key IT powerhouse at present, HP Middle East, which bagged five gongs. This included HP PSG’s regional boss, Anil Gandhi, winning IT Businessperson of the Year. Other key winners included Toshiba, which won the Best Consumer Notebook prize, Apple, which bagged both runner up and winner awards in the Mobile Multimedia Device category, and OKI with its Best Business Printer win. Last but by no means least, the winner of this year’s brand new category – Editor’s Choice ‘Product of the Year’ – was Intel’s high-performance component whiz-kid, the Core 2 Duo processor. “The Windows editorial team reviews in excess of 400 brand new products each year, so this ‘best of the best’ event really is crucial in really separating the wheat from the chaff,” said ITP Business’ managing director, Walid Akawi. “Our wholehearted congratulations go to all this year’s winners.” Check out the full list of 26 Windows Award winners below: CONSUMER AWARDS Best Graphics Card Winner – XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 570M XXX Edition Highly Commended – Connect 3D X1900 GT Best Networking Device Winner – US Robotics US Robotics MaxG range Highly Commended – Linksys Wireless-N range Best storage product Winner – Western Digital Digital Raptor X hard drive Highly Commended – SanDisk Cruzer Titanium flash disk Best PC accessory Winner – Genius Laser Navigator 535 Highly Commended – Creative Live Motion webcam Best Motherboard Winner – Asus M2-Crosshair Highly Commended – Foxconn 975X7AA Best LCD monitor Winner – LG Flatron L1717S Highly Commended – BenQ FP93GX Best Digital Camera Winner – Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z850 Highly Commended – Canon Digital Ixus 55 Best Consumer PC Winner – Sky Electronics Expression Xtreme2 Gaming PC Highly Commended – Shuttle SD36G5 READER VOTED AWARDS Best PC Game Winner – FIFA World Cup 2006 Highly Commended – Need for Speed: Most Wanted Best Mobile Multimedia Device Winner – Apple iPod Video Highly Commended – Apple iPod Nano Best Security Software Winner – Norton Anti-Virus 2006 Highly Commended – McAfee Virus Scan 2006 Best Consumer Notebook Winner – Toshiba Qosmio Highly Commended – Dell XPS M Series Best Photo Printer Winner – HP Photosmart Highly Commended – Canon Pixma Best Consumer Multifunction Device Winner – HP Photosmart Highly Commended – Canon Pixma Best Retail Store Winner – Carrefour Highly Commended – Plug-Ins Electronics Best Customer Support Winner – HP Middle East Highly Commended – Dell SMB AWARDS Best Business Software Winner – Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 2 Highly Commended – Touchmate Passport & Visa Control 6.1 Best Business Handheld Winner – Samsung i320 Highly Commended – i-mate JasJam Best Digital Projector Winner – Viewsonic PJ406D Highly Commended – BenQ PE7700 Best Business Workstation Winner – HP Compaq 5000 series Highly Commended – DTK Cruiser 600 Best Business MFD Winner – Brother MFC-9420CN Highly Commended – Epson CX11NF Best Business Printer Winner – OKI C5900DN Highly Commended – Brother HL-2040 Best Small Business Server Winner - Dell PowerEdge 1800 Highly Commended - Sky Expression VBST Best Business Notebook Winner - FSC Lifebook P7120 Highly Commended - Toshiba Tecra A8 IT Business Person of the Year Winner - Anil Gandhi, general manager, Personal Systems Group, HP Middle East EDITOR'S CHOICE: PRODUCT OF THE YEAR Intel: Core 2 Duo processor family.
