Awards celebrate F&B innovation

More than 400 hospitality professionals descended on the Park Hyatt Dubai last month to attend the Hotelier Middle East Awards.

More than 400 hospitality professionals descended on the Park Hyatt Dubai last month to attend the Hotelier Middle East Awards. The event recognised the efforts and innovations demonstrated by members of the hospitality industry, including food and beverage staff. Bruce Andrade from Spice Island at Renaissance Dubai Hotel walked away with the award for Outlet Manager of the Year, while Jason Whitelock, executive chef at Hilton Dubai Creek, received the coveted Chef of the Year award, sponsored by Nestlé. The award for Food and Beverage Manager of the Year was presented to Aleka Koutropoulos from Dubai’s Towers Rotana Hotel, while Muhammed Ilyas Bhatti from Hilton Dubai Jumeirah and Hilton Dubai Creek was named Procurement Person of the Year. This year’s judging panel included Ron Hilvert, managing director of Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management; Alen Thong, secretary of the Emirates Culinary Guild; and Lorna Clarke, executive director of HotelBenchmark — Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure, at Deloitte & Touche. Judges for this year’s awards, were presented with more than 1000 nominations across 15 categories before deciding on an outright winner for each award.
