Sharp aims to lead a green revolution

Consumer electronics giant Sharp announces ambition to have zero impact on the environment by 2010.

Sharp, a leading Japanese producer of electronic items, announced an ambitious environmental policy to have zero impact on the environment by 2010, at this year’s GITEX. “Sharp's goal is to become the number one eco friendly brand,” Tomio Isogai, managing director of Sharp Middle East FZE told GITEX Times. “Sharp intends to become an eco-friendly company in terms of energy consumption, and the quality of the products.” “As Earth's resources are depleted and as businesses and consumers become more aware of the challenges of the future, Sharp has taken it upon itself to set the pace for an evolution of technologies that will enable us to sustain and improve standards of living while reducing our consumption of precious energy resources,” he added. Sharp’s environmental policy is already encapsulated in some of the products it is displaying at GITEX. Indeed, its latest range of TVs use an improved 'Aquos' line of LCD and consume 30% less energy compared with existing CRT technology. At GITEX, Sharp is also launching a 65 inch information display monitor which can be used in places such as airports, shopping malls and public places for signage. It can also be used for educational and medical applications, video conferencing, and in showrooms.
