SAMSUNG’S audio visual team is gearing up for a busy end to the year following a successful GITEX. Ashraf Sajid, sales and marketing manager of Samsung Gulf’s AV division, says: “We believe GITEX is the right venue to showcase our technology as we are seeing a clear shift from IT to AV convergence. It is an opportunity to show which products we have ahead of the fourth and first quarters, which are the main two selling seasons of the year.” Samung claims its AV business is growing five times as fast as last year, and it expects that growth to continue now that LCD and plasma TV production have been shifted closer to the Middle East. “Two or three months ago we moved our manufacturing base to Malaysia and that has resulted in the time to market being reduced from 21 to 12 days,” explains Sajid. “This means partners in the Middle East do not have to carry huge stocks and are less affected by price erosion. Where there is an opportunity to optimise inventory and supply chain management we will do so as we don’t encourage our partners to hold large amounts of stock.” Samsung predicts an even stronger year in 2007 as it rolls out a new range of TVs with innovative features such as the option to link directly to printers. The company shipped more than 5.1 million TV units worldwide during the last quarter.
