The Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Tech-nology (cert), the commercial arm of the UAE’s Higher Colleges of Technology, has this week launched what’s arguably the most comprehensive and adaptable traffic management solution around. Developed in the Emirates in conjunction with IBM Engineering and Technology Services, cert has already begun one deployment of ‘Falcon’, with concrete supplier Unibeton, and is in talks with an automotive services company about a second deal. “Cert Falcon is a next-generation, customisable telematics solution which can offer companies certain knowledge of where their vehicles are and what they are doing, to help firms increase productivity, reduce risk, improve safety, streamline processes and, in doing so, reduce costs,” says cert consultant David Mills. “It’s not just about truck locations however,” explains Mills. “Through combining the Falcon solution with sensors in and around each truck (including inside the mixer drum itself), a manager can not only note if a driver makes an unscheduled stop, but assess whether a particular journey time will lead to so-called concrete ‘slump’ (in which it becomes unusable), and if this is likely then he can redirect the truck to a closer construction site. Altogether there are over 3500 parameters we can set.”
