Emirates Computers' president Hani Harik has hailed this year’s GITEX the best ever. Harik has attended all 26 shows — including 19 as an exhibitor — but claims this year’s efforts surpass all those before it. “There is a better quality of people this year and even the exhibitors have improved the quality of their stands to take things to a much higher level. But Dubai as a city is doing a good job, and the UAE and Saudi have become key markets in the region in terms of services and infrastructure. Everything starts with the construction industry, and then all the other industries follow.” Emirates Computers, which is a big partner of brands such as Dell, Cisco and Citrix, is demonstrating the theme of smart living and convergence at its booth to illustrate the way that technology is being adopted by all types of user. The UAE-based company successfully operates a dual sales model with almost half of its business coming from the corporate sector and the rest from the consumer sector. A sustained emphasis on the enterprise market has seen its corporate division flourish and it now accounts for 60% of net profits. However, the company remains firmly committed to its retail offering and has big plans for next year. “Between now and July 2007 you will see us double the amount of showrooms we have from eight to 16,” reveals Harik. At least one of those stores could be focused exclusively on Dell products, according to Harik. Dell remains one of Emirates Computers’ largest partners with more than 100 of its 460-strong sales team focused on selling Dell kit. Harik yesterday met with Dell’s European Distribution Business boss Pim Dale and VP marketing EMEA Jeff Kimbell who dropped into the show to meet with Middle East partners.
